AI technology developer OpenAI has begun creating a new flagship artificial intelligence model, GPT-5, company CEO Sam Altman said in an interview with the Financial Times.
The new AI model will be more advanced than GPT-4, although it is technically difficult to predict in what aspect. The head of the company refused to name the release date of the platform, but clarified that training it will require more data than when setting up previous OpenAI models. The developer plans to obtain the necessary information from publicly available sources and from other companies: last week the company launched a partnership initiative in which third-party organizations will be able to provide datasets for training their own projects in the field of AI.
The long-term goal of OpenAI’s engineering investments is to develop strong Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). This term refers to a hypothetical AI model that is capable of performing a wide range of tasks and learning new ones on a par with a human. The release of large language models is an important milestone on the road to AGI, “but there will be a lot of other things beyond that.”
