Mercedes-Benz Showed An Electric Geländewagen With A “Tank Turn”

Mercedes-Benz brought to CES 2024 a prototype of the Geländewagen electric SUV, which can receive a “tank turn” function. Car and Driver writes about this. Mercedes-Benz EQG should debut before the end of this year, and the key factor determining the ability to establish its mass production should be the availability of Sila anodes with a high silicon content, which will make it possible to create a sufficiently capacious and not too heavy and bulky traction battery.

Mercedes-Benz EQG should debut before the end of this year, and the key factor determining the ability to establish its mass production should be the availability of Sila anodes with a high silicon content, which will make it possible to create a sufficiently capacious and not too heavy and bulky traction battery.

The older version of the SUV will receive four electric motors, one for each of the wheels, so it will be able to carry out the so-called “tank turn”. In this case, the machine on a loose surface, due to the rotation of the wheels on each side in the opposite direction, will be able to turn 180 degrees on the spot. As always, a demonstration of such capabilities of the prototype can be seen in the attached video, and in this case the cars rotate on wet asphalt, and not in snow or sand.

By 2030, Mercedes wants to switch to 100% electric vehicles, except in small markets where the conditions for this are difficult, such as a lack of chargers.
